Healthy Contributions Pattern

What do we mean by Healthy Contributions Patterns?

Over the years, the UUA has consulted with many congregations in serious financial trouble because they were overly dependent on a few household donors for too high a percentage of donations.

Unfortunately, MVUC is in the unhealthy category.  Our distribution of giving is badly out of balance.

With over 200 donors, if only 1 of our top 10 donors leaves, reallocates their commitments to other causes, or dies without a bequest, MVUC takes a major financial hit; tough decisions result. We have not balanced our risks and our responsibilities.

The two pyramids below illustrate the point. The first is the Healthy Contributions distribution. This is not an iron-glad rule, but it’s a proven guideline that serves the church well in both easier and leaner financial times. The second is MVUC.

Correcting this imbalance is a shared responsibility for each of us individually and all of us collectively

The most useful way to do so is use the UUA Suggested Fair Share Guide to determine your own contributions.

Do the calculations shown on the guide (don’t worry, they aren’t complicated, and your Visiting Steward will be glad to help anyone who wants assistance doing the math).
