We are pleased that you are interested in learning more about our ministry of religious education (RE) at Mount Vernon Unitarian Church (MVUC). Our program provides classes for children and youth from nursery through high school during Sunday services, adult RE classes, special programming, and inter-generational events.MVUC's RE program is shaped by the Religious Education Council, administered by the Director of Religious Education and supported by an RE Assistant.
The Religious Education Council
The Religious Education Council's purpose is to encourage the life-long journey of faith development and to act as the coordinating body of all RE committees, to serve as a resource for the RE staff, to offer encouragement and support to volunteers, to guide the direction of the RE programs, and to ensure that the needs and mission of the congregation are met. The current members of the Council are:

Our Mission
It is the mission of MVUC Religious Education to create, design, and offer comprehensive educational and spiritual programs and activities that focus on:- Modeling and nurturing acceptance of self and others, and
- Promoting a lifelong journey of education and spiritual growth.
Objectives
- to develop a sense of self worth.
- to foster an appreciation for religious, ethnic, and cultural diversity.
- to create a sense of belonging through participation in the MVUC community.
- to learn responsibility towards others and the environment.
- to identify with our Unitarian Universalist heritage.
- to have the opportunity to celebrate the mysteries of life through worship.
- to find guidance and support for expressing personal religion in everyday life.
Theme
Our program and extracurricular themes are both timely and timeless. We are committed to the timeless themes of Unitarian Universalism, Jewish and Christian heritages, world religions and prophetic visions and actions. We also strive to respond effectively to contemporary issues. Religious education is a life long process. We are on a pilgrimage that is nurtured by being in a community of seekers. As companions on the journey we need each other for sharing our thoughts and wonderings. Your participation enriches us all.
