Stewardship Commitments
Our sister UU church in Asheville, North Carolina, defines “stewardship” as follows:
Heartfelt
giving of our time, talent, and treasure feels good, and we know in our
heart and mind that it is the right thing to do.
Here is how our materialistic culture defines success: "Get it. Keep it. Enjoy it.”
MVUC’s stewards want to change this concept.
“Stewardship
is the attitude reflected in the way we live our lives,” says Dr. Wayne
Clark of the Unitarian Universalist Association of Congregations
(UUA). It is an act of worship that speaks to our human spiritual need
to share. Clark sees stewardship as a vital component of MVUC’s shared
ministry. It is a service to givers who discover their generosity. He
believes that a congregation that initiates conversations and shares
stories about giving and receiving will change from a culture of
scarcity to one of abundance.
We agree! MVUC’s stewards are
building our “Hill of Dreams” and changing MVUC’s culture to one of
abundance. It feels good. It feels right. The yoke is easy, and the
burden is light!
Please join us! We are equal opportunity
stewards. You will feel no pressure, just the sincere gratitude of
your fellow MVUC stewards. You will also feel better about yourself.
Please become an MVUC steward by giving of your treasure until it feels
right. We don’t ask for a specific amount, but a large number of
MVUC’s stewards give in accordance with the
UUA's Suggested Fair Share Giving Guide that you can print for your own use.
We
ask that you fill out a Stewardship Commitment card when you decide to
give and return it to the church office. You may find these cards in
the foyer of the church.
If you want to have your stewardship commitment withdrawn directly from your checking account? This
form will allow you to set up direct withdrawal from you checking to pay your pledge.
