Sunday morning Religious Education classes for children and youth (Pre-Kindergarten through 12th grade) are offered during both of the Sunday services during the September – June Church year. Classes meet after For All Ages in the service.
Nursery care for children under age 3 is available year round.
Curriculum-based classes are offered during the 11:15 a.m. service for Pre-K through 12th grade. Spirit Play, a Montessori-inspired all-ages curriculum, is offered during the 9:15 a.m. service to Pre-K through 5th grade
After Easter, children in Kindergarten through 5th grade usually participate in The Green Hill Project, an environmental curriculum that takes children outside to undertake hands-on activities to learn about and care for our immediate environment – from bog gardening, to wildlife, the water cycle and “from seed to market” – as well as the environment of our larger world and things we can do to be responsible stewards of the earth.
On Sundays during the 9:15 a.m. church service, we offer Spirit Play to Pre-K – 5th grade. Spirit Play is an all-ages curriculum, which helps children live their own answers to existential questions, such as:
Where did we come from?
What are we doing here?
How do we chose to live our lives?
What happens when we die?
Spirit Play uses the Montessori approach for the structure of the class. The key elements are the classroom environment and the teachers. These elements free the children to work at their own pace on their own issues after an initial lesson. After a story circle, each child choses an art response or works with a story previously heard. When work time ends, children clean up and then share a feast (snack).
