Outdoor Fellowship – June 15

We hope to reschedule the bike ride sometime in the future but for June we have a gem in the suburbs. The Winkler Botanical Preserve in Alexandria is a lovely pocket of woods with a stream, waterfalls and pond.

There is a nice wooden lodge with porch and chairs. There are multiple trails so one could walk half a mile or 2-3 miles on comfortable mulch, with some moderate ups and downs. Given the predominant tree coverage we will not be exposed to the hot sun.

We plan to meet at MVUC at 9:30 am on Sat. June 15 to carpool or you may rendezvous at 10:00 am at the parking area just inside the entry gate to Winkler. Please note that there are no restrooms and picnicking is not permitted. We plan to go to a nearby eatery TBD for lunch.

Directions: The address is 5400 Roanoke Ave., Alexandria, Va. 22311   From MVUC take Ft. Hunt Rd. north to Rt. 1, right and north to left on Duke, right on Quaker, left on Seminary, left on Beauregard St.and left on Roanoke Ave. to the parking area. Yes, it is surrounded by suburbia. It is about 11-12 mi. from MVUC and takes about 25 min.
