As a liberal religion, we shy away from talking about sin and try to liberate the socially marginalized from the label of “sinner.” Sin is corrosion of the social order, but some things need to be corroded. The State knows the power of deviance, of queerness, so it is trying to legislate us out of existence, to remove us from schools, the office, the military — the sites of structured normalcy. But God stands on the side of the sinner.
